Attention (Grime) This tune started as a dubstep tune and ended up as a sub bass monster. Old skool stabs and chunky beat make this a true stomper. The bass frequency has to heard on a sub to be heard at all. Its a grimey wobbler that slowly slides up and down the low frequencies that make your brain fizzle. Great for free styling to.
Bassline Reject (Bassline House) Funk on a stick. I like this one, well mastered bassline rolls under the cheeky house beat for an all round happy vibe. 70's funky guitar slaps ride along with an off beat guitar riff. bouncy bouncy!
Baysline (4x4) The backing track for "Where you from?". Heavy yet simple. the bass line stays low and gets doubled up with the higher frequency to move it along. I love the timing on the layout of the bas line, gives it rhythm, you'll find this jumpy timing in a lot of my tunes. This is one of my favourite tracks, only made this this year.
Don't Be Afraid (Cheesy Drum n Bass) The Simpsons inspired me on this one. Using samples from the DVD episode where "Homer" meets nuclear "Mr Burns" as think he is an alien. Spooky sounds and melody surround the samples to give a true sense of eeriness! The off beat bass stabs at the start and the bass line in general are so cheesy it's funny, but it suits the samples and the track as a whole. Check out the rinse out on all three drops near the end. Echoed snares worked a treat on this one. This is a fairly old tune, I think at least 5 years old.
Don't Stop (4x4 Doller Edit) This is the backing track to the remix I did for "Rihanna - Don't stop the music" (On the remix section). It was good enough on it's own as a backing track. This version has a better intro for an MC and slight tweaks throughout like a slightly different structure for laying down a chorus and verses. This is the version I did for MC Ren Doller, who is yet to add his lyrics! Wobble bass, tear out bass and bobbing bass, got to have the variety in there.
Elevator (Chill Out) Close your eyes, think about far away places of sun sea and sand..... I made this very late one night hence the tone of the whole track. Called elevator as it's something you may well hear in an elevator on your day to day trips up tall buildings. The start is a little jittery due to a file error, it's ok after 1min. Warping pads swirl under pianos that float on the smooth bassline. The beat comes in strong and its good times all round.
Freeze (Stomping DnB) This tune was inspired and made around the time that DJ Fresh released "Tomb Raider" a tune that really stood out as being... well basically stomping! The beats and bass line were laid out that it almost sounded slower than DnB. This tune was made with a real emphasis on only the kick and the snare to make that chunky sound. The intro alone is funky, but when it drops its a stomper for sure.
Funk (Human Beat Box Hip-Hop) This is made purely of human samples from the mouth. Samples from myself, MC Way and Singer Nat M. Laid out again for verses and choruses as a backing track. This was just as much fun to make as it is to listen to!
Grim (Dubstep) Fairly hard to class this as dubstep or grime, i just love the mastering on the bass line, it shakes the ass off any subwoofer and hits you right in the chest. This is a wicked bass tester if you need one! Low bass all the way through, and that simple knocking drum keep it moving.
Headrush (Fun Old Skool DnB) One of my favourites. This was made originally as an old skool hardcore track but ended up finding it's way to my passion of Drum n Bass. I love the drums in this and the rhythm it gives. The melody before the drop is actually a techno sample slowed down, which naturally became the basis of the bass line. A true funk-a-delic. The female "Aaahhhhhh" with some of the other sounds in there and the second bridge bass line give it a deeper feel, almost a tribal housey feel, although I can't quite put my finger on it!
Hey Hey (Hip-Hop / Drum n Bass / Hardcore) Originally made for the CETC Cru (Council Estate Touring Car Cru) for their intro on their website. This tune incorporates Hip-Hop into Drum n Bass of the wobbliest variety and then ends in Hardcore! The DnB got the main attention due to my passion in DnB, I like the bit about half way through. The melodies change and chop with similar bass sounds making them. The change between the three genres in made to sound like a mix. Sample from "Chemical Brothers - Hey Boy, Hey Girl" is used in there on each change.
I'm lovin' DnB (Cheesy DnB) Hahahaha! I love this track! And yes that's all me on the vocal! Pitch sliding all over the place gives this track that scooter/chipmunk feel. Actually inspired around the time scooter released "The Logical Song". The bass line is ripping in comparison to the track but lifts it to a harder side of cheese. I like the old skool dub bass under the lyrics as well. The track has all sorts of qwerky elements, trumpets, human mouth effects, old skool drums. Brilliant.
LL Bass (Drum n Mid-Bass) I have to admit this one didn't turn out exactly as I'd planned. The intro is from "LL Cool J - Doing it well" although with the tempo difference it ended up being slightly out of tune. the bass line is constantly changing and I like the melody. I never got round to adding the guts of the bass underneath it so it has no bottom end - hence the name Drum n Mid-Bass!
F*ck About AKA: Liqweed (Liquid to Jump Up DnB) I think this would have been better made into two tracks although the contrast make the tune special as it starts liquid, and drops the first time as liquid. I really like the first bass line, in my opinion there are too many drums going on to make this as clear as it should be! Check for the rinse out on the last part of each bass line throughout the track, as seen in "Don't be afraid". The 2nd bass line has that old skool bass blower, that flips on the second time round to a higher bass sound. Ultimately I like this track but I think the layout could be better.
Mass (House) Think this beat is un-touchable! Proper funk, I'll hopefully use it again soon. Its hard yet funky, mixed with tribal drums and a warping bass sound. Unfinished but you can hear potential in this part alone. Based on the house style that Timo Maas mixed back in 2000. Deep yet funky house.
Milk (Rock n Roll Remixed) Inspired by "Little Richard - All around the world" a track used in the film "The Explorers" and recently in the "Cravendale" milk advert. Its a melody I had stuck in my head since a nipper after watching the film back in about 1990!! Nearly 18 years with me! The problem I had when playing with this melody it that it's bassed on a tempo that's so quick so it didn't fall into Drum n Bass. It was 200bpm or this one was 100bpm, using the snare on the off beat. I like this track, I'd love to add vocals to it one day. Very lively and fun, the pauses in between the different basses would be for the simple bridges like Little Richard had: "All them fat top cats with there rock n roll things, the people all holler when they hit the floor, go cat go!!!" Classic.
Missed Call (Jungle) Ever trying to master a good jungle beat, I ended up making this tune. Very simple concept on the intro. Big synths carry the end of each bar through to the next stage on jungleness. I like all the metallic and heavy jungle drum sounds that constantly change each bar. The deep synth pads give it the depth that old skool jungle had. The bassline is mainly 2 notes worked around deep toms to make a more popping sound. Unfinished
Nutcrocker - 2008 Vocal Mix (Swearing)(Cheesy DnB) From the original version below I always thought this tune needed something extra. So as a play about I added these vocals. In my opinion it calls for something a little better than this but for a giggle this tune is funny. This ones for all you who knew the original! Check the original below... "If you're feeling crazy then act like a loon, get hyperactive and bounce round the room".
Nutcrocker (Cheesy DnB) Samples taken from the well known piano tune "Nutcracker" by "Bee-Bumble and the stingers" 1952 I think, really old rock n roll. I heard this at a skating competition and it became one of the first DnB tunes I made. And then became one the my best known tunes due to its simple bass line and well known piano loops. I have added vocals to this but they didn't really suit the track, I will post that version on here soon though. Check it out, legendary tune!
Propa (Dubstep) Grimey bass and chunky beats laid out to give an almost lazy feel. The bass line is layered with a mid bass to give it that grunt. The tune almost stops every now and then to add to it's lazyness. The wobbles of bass on the end of the bass line are DnB inspired.
Redemption (Funky DnB) I like this track, Funk n Bass someone described it as. Lively funky drums hype up the sliding bass line, that was made with pitch sliders and all sorts of effects added on top. It started out as a single note. This was sequenced in an audio editing piece of software so some parts aren't in total sync. Still get's away with it though as it's so out there.
Rio (DnB) A remix me and DJ Wrixon did for someone called Rio, actually using samples from "Duran Duran - Rio". We did actually do a full remix with the vocals but it was wrong so I haven't added it here. The samples work well with the track and the tempo's were almost the same so they fit nicely. I like the game show style feel it has from the samples! haha! The first bass line originally had the intro lyrics on there but we kept it in as it was still a nice old skool intro for the jump up part of the second drop. The second drop is inspired by DJ Wrixons mixing style of what we call "5" tunes, as in the phattest wobbling romper stomping tunes. 3 different basses make up the bass line and add light and rough textures to the melody. Would be nice to add vocals to the old skool drops. Gotta like that tension before the drop with the Duran Duran samples as stabs. Made early 2008.
Skalecta (Dancehall) Remember there's only one race, and that's the human race okay. Listen! haha! To be honest the first Dancehall tune I ever had a go at, probably one of the better ones too. Some of the sounds are a little basic and not totally authentic but it works. This is an intro tune I made for a DJ called The Skalecta. The lyrics were dropped in from a sample CD just to get a feel for lyrics over the track. I have an instrumental version that many people have free styled over in their time. I like the sub bass on the kick and the different bass melody's and instruments, we need to hear this on a valve sound system, Dub Reggae Skalecta!
Smuve (Electro) My first attempt at electro. This doesn't carry the bouncy party feel that most electro tunes have but it is very qwerky and one of the best tunes I think I've made. Very nicely flowing, you never realize the tracks changing then all of a sudden you've reached the end. That being said it is far from monotonous and does go places! Has a mellow feel to it carrying spacey samples send it to another level. Half way through it has the random bleeping melody that many electro tunes have. This was a pleasure to make and once the track got going, everything seemed to fit in place nicely. Any electro fans out there I'd love some feedback on this track please.
Spooky (Hip-Hop) Named after the sound of the track and possibly to inspire the vocals that have yet to be added to this. Sweeping dark synths roll over military snares and drums before a wobbling flute sound is added. The layout of the flute is almost a 3/4 structure, and over the 4/4 rhythm it messes with your head! I love it, the sound of the whole track really inspires me to write some deep lyrics! Simple funky bass make the track bounce, but the beat is changing between a simple kick + clap to an abstract layout swapping the kicks for snares and vice-versa, very clever. Someone add lyrics to this and send it to me!
Submarine (House) Again going for that deeper house here. Samples of water and submarine type noises make this a submariners treat. Random percussion adds a little funk to this tune. It ends on the breakdown which is where it should come back in. The breakdown takes you to the darker depths of the sea. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!
That's it (Hip-Hop) Made as a backing track for MC Way. This has rolling bass similar to many of my DnB tracks and is complimented by an echoed guitar pluck. The beat is slightly abstract like my other hip-hop tracks. simple and effective. All the pauses and cuttings have been added already.
Wawa (Filthy DnB) (Swearing) When I say filthy, I mean distorted to bits, like a bass massacre! Samples for the vocal and the bass lines were taken from a German released free speech CD called "Sh*t loads of f*ck all". The samples were so distorted the tracks in un-saveable of distortion, although I did try to clean them up a bit, I gave up and kept the raw element in there. I'd suggest you don't play this track loud on any kind of system you want to keep! No seriously don't! All sorts of frequencies in there. Un-mastered and beyond mastering! The bass line is quite fun when it gets going though.
Wobble Robot (4x4) One of my latest tracks made September 2008. This track is one of many bass line tracks I've been in the zone on lately. I like the beat, simple but clicky, that a 4x4 tune has to have. A simple melody carries this in from the sweeping synth intro to an old skool piano loop building up to a wobbly riding bassline that switches to a higher pitched reversed wobble before and broken beat over the robot samples with old skool garage bass beep with effects over it to make it extra robotic.
Y'all ain't ready (DnB) This is actually a remix of "Kid Ross - Y'all ain't ready". Who's that? He's actually an American rapper and the vinyl I stumbled across had the instrumental and Acapella on it. Most element and all the vocals come from this track. I like the hip-hop intro, the bass line is bordering an electric guitar so had that rough rocky feel. On the break-downs I was going for an old skool Aphrodite vocal feel, but no-one does it like Aphrodite! You get the idea though! The second bassline I think needs beefing up a little the sound I used just doesn't carry it. Although i do like the bassline that bubbles underneath it, you'll need a sub to hear it though. After the 2nd bassline the track almost goes on a little de-tour around the same idea, it does keep it moving though and builds back into the 1st drop at the end to finish it up. Lovely.
Where you from? (4x4 Remix feat. MC Ratta & MC Ren Doller) Where YOU from? Where you from? This is the full length version with Rinsed Cru MCs Ratta and Ren Doller adding the last 4 verses, we roll two each on this with the infamous hook in-between each one. My verse is about Gosport, Ratta talks about Portsmouth and Ren drops some classic lyrics over the Gosport hook. A nice local talent collective. Result.
Where you from? (4x4) The original "Where you from?" tune that was sent about via blue tooth around Gosport. It's short n sweet, 2 minutes, 2 verses, 2 choruses about Gosport and all it's areas. The backing is the "Baysline" tune at the top of the page. "If you're from Gosport it's time to gather round, listen now..."
OLD TUNES It must be noted that most of these tunes were made on Music 2000, some even on the Playstation way way back in the day. Please excuse the poor production and cheesyness of some of these as they are only on here to show you where I've come from production wise.
A Different Place (Abstract Hip-Hop) Not sure what genre this is meant to be it has a broken beat but is 130bpm, not quite garage or house or hip-hop really but the rest of the tune pushes it more towards Hip-Hop. The beat it self is really jumpy all over the timing and the rhythm is actually quite jittery, the trumpet sample is delayed on purpose to give it a real old skool hip-hop feel. The mellow part just added another place for this tune to go. The vocal suits the old skool hip-hop vibe, like a qwerky electro track? I don't no you decide!
C Saw (Weak Chilled House) Weak due to its lack of balls on the kick drum and snare, it has got both elements in there, I promise! The simple chords chop and change between bleeps and synths that build and layer all over the place to end up with a happy little melody that skips along the cheesy road it was made on!
Intergalactic Spaceyness (DnB) The first Drum n Bass tune I ever made. The intro was based on the intro in the tune "Dillinja - Twist them out". I like the spacey sound that wobbles along this track, the drums are cheeky with toms, tablas and cow bells and the bass line is simple. Part one just bounces along nicely. The breakdown and build up is quite clever I think. Hip-Hop beats take this tune for a while before the build up starts. That build up is laid over 3 bars making you think the track it going to drop. But then 4th bar add to build it all back up again before the real drop. Happy cheeky drums take the bassline along over the drop, that eventually turns back into the first drop. There is a part on the second drop where I simply double up the bassline in length and add those drums back in. This is well over due for a remix, it seems only right since it was tune number 1! The name came from the sample I was going to use from the film "The 51st State" - "I wasn't thrust Mr Mackelroy, I want 10,000 miles and hour of intergalactic spaceness!" talking about the super drug that Samuel L Jackson has made.
U13 AKA: It ain't over (Cheesy DnB) I made this in about half an hour on a Sunday morning. The vocal's didn't need to be in this but they eventually make me laugh so I kept them in! I like the heavy drums, and the off beat flute, the bell every 32 beats keeps it moving and the vocal's just add that bit of cheese that's needed. The bass line actually came from my Roland MC303 back in the day! Analogue synth with that changing timing again on the 4th sequence as seen in many of my tunes. The breakdown add the top and bottom to the bass line and brings it back actually quite cheesy, almost a bit old skool cheesy trancey housey. The U13 was the name of the bank on my MC303 the tune was in.
Kidz (House) Bassline house was the original idea and in some ways i'm very happy with this track. The percussions are kept simple much like the house tunes that were around back then (About 2000). The off beat bass was inspired by "Timo Maas - Derschieber" and the bleeps from "Tall Paul - Freebase". The sweeping synths added that mellow part to the track which i would of loved to of come back with something a little more than the first part. Partly unfinished, this track seems to end with a nice buildup to something. I'll let you decide.
